What is this product used for?
An antiseptic solution is a broad spectrum microbicide that is employed for the treatment of contaminated wounds, pre-operative preparations of the skin and vagina, infections of the mouth, herpes infections, oral and vaginal candidiasis, vaginal trichomoniasis, acne vulgaris and other pyogenic or seborrheic infections of the scalp and skin. It has also been used in the treatment of eczematoid ringworm.
How to use this product?
This may be use as often as required. The affected skin should be cleaned and dried. Apply liberally and cover with a dressing or bandage if necessary.
Care that should be taken when applying the product
Povidone-Iodine should not be used in patients with non-toxic nodular goiter. Application to large areas of broken skin should be avoided as excessive absorption of iodine may occur. If irritation, redness or swelling develops, discontinue use.
Undesirable effects
Povidone-Iodine can cause hypersensitivity reactions and irritation of the skin and mucous membranes, although severe reactions are rare and Povidone-Iodine is considered to be less irritant than iodine. Application to severe burns or to large areas otherwise expose of skin may produce the systemic adverse effects associated with iodine such as metabolic acidosis, hypernatremia, and impairment of renal function. Hyperthyroidism or hypothyroidism may occur following ingestion of large quantities.
Medicine or food that should be avoided
Regular or prolonged used should be avoided in patients with thyroid disorders or those receiving lithium therapy.
