Care that should be taken when taking this Medicine
Administration of doses greater than 10 mcg of Cyanocobalamin daily may produce a hematological response in patients with folate deficiency. Indiscriminate use may mask the precise diagnosis. Long-term use of large doses of pyridoxine is associated with the development of severe peripheral neuropathies.
Undesirable effects
Gastrointestinal disturbances such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal cramps have been reported after the daily use of large doses of levo-carnitine. Body odor has also been noticed in some patients, possibly due to the formation of the metabolite trimethylamine.
To prevent gastrointestinal disturbances such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal cramps, it is recommended to take GODEX DS before meals. It is advised to administer the IV Form of GODEX DS (Mitodex) to prevent body odor in patients with renal failure due to the formation of the metabolite trimethylamine.
Medicine or food that should be avoided
Absorption of Cyanocobalamin (Vitamin B12) from the gastrointestinal tract may be reduced by neomycin, aminosalicylic acid, histamine H2-receptor antagonists, and colchicine. Oral therapy with Pyridoxine Hydrochloride (Vitamin B6) is of proven benefit in correcting the sideroblastic anemias associated with the anti-tuberculosis drugs such as Isoniazid and Pyrazinamide which act as Vitamin B6 antagonists.
